The office holiday party is on Friday. We’re having a ‘holiday’ party, not a ‘Christmas’ party.
The tight-wad in charge at the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services allocated $15.50 for each staff member for the holiday party in 2006. Professional therapists who listen to the troubles of others all year long are rewarded with a slap in the face and a drop in the piggy bank during the season to be jolly.
Are there any corporations in America that still give substantial ‘holiday’ bonuses?
The social workers I work with are unappreciated, just like school teachers. It makes me very angry to learn they are given only $15.50 each to celebrate the ‘holidays’ in 2006.
New York State pays the organization they work for over $200 for a 45 minute therapy session through Medicaid supplements. The therapists are required to see a minimum of 30 clients a week– that’s $6,000 for five days of listening, but their take home pay is just over $500 a week.
Rents in New York City have surpassed $2,000– even in Brooklyn and the ghetto. Before long, therapists will not have a place to lay down their sweet heads in New York City.
Those social workers assist the crazy and delusional in their battles with demons. They assist the weary during times of trouble. To say ‘thank you’, their employer offers them $15.50– not $15.00, but $15.50– as if a mathematical formula based on biblical scripture was used to say ‘thanks’ to those who listen to battered women, keep disturbed children off probation and stop intrusive thoughts.
They do the hard work– not their bosses who take trips to around the world with money from the September 11th fund to study ‘trauma’ of all things!.
In New York City– a pack of cigarettes cost $7.00 and a gallon of gas is still over $2.00.
What are they doing with your tax dollar?
Thanks for listening.
